Abstract:Several researchers are investigating the use of electrodes placed directly on large nerve trunks for use in Functional Nerve Stimulation systems. A method of quantifying electrode selectivity and performance is not currently available. Presented here is a method/algorithm of displaying functional performance of an electrode and a means of quantifying electrode selectivity from isometric, three-dimensional torque data acquired non-invasively. First, we have developed the Torque Recruitment Trajectory from torque recruitment data. The TRT is an effective method of visualizing torque data and assessing the functional stimulation properties of an electrode or contact. Second, the curvature measure of the TRT quantifies the selectivity of the electrode
