| Abstract: | Increased polymerization yield is observed in the copolymerization of styrene and CO in ionic liquids (ILs) compared to commonly used molecular solvents using palladium catalysts. Conditions for the copolymerizations were optimized and the effect of changes in the cation and anion of the IL solvent were determined. These results suggest that polar, non-coordinating ILs accelerate olefin polymerization catalyzed by electrophilic, charge-separated catalyst species. |
